Most of what gets written about Dillon Reservoir is the serious stuff: the town that was moved, the boat inspections, the rules that keep the water clean. Here’s the part residents actually look forward to.
On the reservoir’s north shore sits the Dillon Amphitheater, an open-air venue the Town of Dillon owns and runs. Through the summer it puts on a mix of free and ticketed shows. The free Monday-night series, called Mountain Music Mondays, is first come, first served, with no tickets required for those dates. You spread a blanket on the lawn, the water sits right there past the stage, and the Gore Range fills in behind it.
A few steps away is the Dillon Marina, which the town bills as the world’s highest deep-water marina, sitting at 9,017 feet. The boating season is short and weather-dependent, typically early June into early or mid September. You can rent a pontoon, a sailboat, a kayak, or a paddleboard, or take a sailing lesson.
It’s a brief window. The lake freezes, the lawn empties, and the chairs come down. That short summer is exactly why people circle the dates. For the current concert lineup and rentals, start at dillonamp.com and townofdillon.com/marina.
