Two school districts split Park County, so your address decides which one you're in
Park County is divided between Park County School District RE-2 around Fairplay and Platte Canyon School District RE-1 in the Bailey area, and your home's location sets which one serves it.

If you have school-age children, one of the first Park County questions to answer is which school district a home falls in. The county is not a single district. It is split, mainly between Park County School District RE-2, centered on Fairplay and the South Park communities, and Platte Canyon School District RE-1, which serves the Bailey area in the northeast.
The reason this matters is that district lines do not always match what you might expect. They are their own boundaries, drawn separately from town limits and from the county line. Two homes that feel like they are in the same general area can sit in different districts, which changes the schools your children attend and the school portion of the property tax bill.
District RE-2 also stands behind a couple of charter schools in outlying communities, so the nearest building is not always the only option. The practical step is simple: before you commit to a home for its schools, confirm the exact district for that specific parcel rather than assuming based on the nearest town.
District boundaries and school assignments can change, so check current information directly. Start with Park County’s public-schools page and the district’s own site to confirm where an address falls.
