Harvey Gap is the gentler cousin of nearby Rifle Gap. The reservoir, set above the town of Silt, is smaller and calmer, and the rules keep it that way.
Unlike the open boating at Rifle Gap, Harvey Gap caps boat motors at a low horsepower limit. That keeps the water quiet and friendlier for fishing from a small boat, paddling, and swimming at the beach. The boat ramp is on the east side. Anglers come for the fishing, and families come for the shaded picnic spots.
There is a seasonal rhythm to it. Boating is closed for the winter, roughly from late fall into spring, when the water is cold and the season has wound down. The exact dates can shift, so it is worth confirming before you tow a boat out.
Harvey Gap does not have its own staffed entrance building; the visitor center over at Rifle Gap serves it. You still need a valid Colorado parks pass to enter, and boats here are subject to the same aquatic nuisance species inspection rules that apply statewide.
